Course Overview
This two-hour course is designed specifically for Non-Executive Directors operating in regulated, governance-heavy environments. It will equip NEDs with the shared language and confidence needed to engage effectively in board-level discussions about AI.
Course Content
The course will explain the key AI concepts including the difference between chatbots, custom AI assistants and autonomous agents before exploring how AI is reshaping work, decision support and organisational risk.
Particular attention is paid to the risks of “shadow AI”, which is an informal or unmanaged AI use that bypasses governance.
A practical live demonstration will show how NEDs can personally use AI tools to support their role with an emphasis on safe, confidential use that enhances scrutiny and challenge, including:
- Analysing board papers
- Reviewing unfamiliar or technical documents
- Identifying inconsistencies or unanswered questions
In addition, the course will focus on independent oversight, covering the key questions NEDs should be asking boards and executives about AI use, accountability, data protection and decision responsibility which will be supported by a concise overview of GDPR and the EU AI Act.
